Senior Infants Term 1 (Part 2)
After Halloween, the children were busy in the classroom learning all about food items that are soluble and foods that cannot dissolve in water. In small groups, they had lots of fun making predictions and bserving what happened to salt, flour, couscous, coffee and sugar when placed in water and stirred. Exploring the body senses was fun through games with blindfolds and spices with unusual smells. The children also investigated properties of air by playing with balloons and blowing bubbles outdoors. We talked about how air takes up space and can make objects move. Watching and counting bubbles floating in the air was very exciting. Especially, when a huge bubble came out of the bubble wand!
The children enjoyed making 'Fairy Bread' to learn all about 2-D shapes. They buttered bread and cut it into shapes before choosing some sprinkles to place on top. We used lots of interesting words to develop our maths language. We gathered class data and discovered that triangular shaped Fairy Bread was most popular. The best part was eating it up with friends! Before participating in the school Christmas concert, the children engaged in lots of preparations including learning songs and painting stockings to decorate the school hall. On the last day of school, the children did an amazing job decorating Christmas cookies.
