Term 2 2024

January began with learning about the Olympics. We found out about famous Irish Olympians, the history of the Olympics, and why exercise is good for you. We were doing hip-hop dance in P.E. and noticed that our heart rates increased when we exercised. Our Aistear involved creating Olympic events in the small world area, creating sports equipment with playdough, a 'Be Active' word search, designing our own jersey, and making a magnet maze. We were making 8 and adding up to 8 in maths and learning about length and measuring.

February's Theme was 'Places'. We learned about France, different homes in different places, towers, St. Brigid and we also found out some interesting facts about snails. Everyone wrote about snails and decorated their snail writing beautifully. We coloured our own St Brigid's cloaks and read the story of her life. In English we did several activities based on a story 'Six Dinner Sid'. We used skills such as predicting, imagining, creating and discussing the characters, setting, and plot. In Aistear we created towers, cartoon characters, houses, an airport and our own passports.

March was busy with Seachtain na Gaeilge, St. Patrick's Day, Easter Raffle, and Friendship Week. We managed to fit in some learning too! We found out about butterflies, went on a Spring walk, read The Ugly Duckling and continued to work on writing 'My News'. We started learning about the number 10 and also explored predicting and measuring weight in maths. We had a really great time when 'Bricksforkids' visited the school too!
