November and December 2023
Our SESE theme during November was Sound. We looked at loud and soft sounds, musical instruments from around the world and we made a musical shaker from recycled materials. We drew and painted pictures while listening to Mozart. Our Aistear theme during November was the Zoo and the Vet. We looked at the sounds that zoo animals make and we read a story all about a vet that worked in the zoo. The children had lots of fun creating zoo animals from playdough, completing an animal zoo matching activity, a zoo word search, creating zoo enclosures for the toy animals in small world and acting out the vet in the role-play area. A Scientist came for a visit during Science week and did a really cool experiment with our class. We also made 3D shapes from playdough - a cube, cuboid, sphere and a cylinder.
December was taken up with lots of rehearsing for our Nativity play. The children loved the songs and the acting and especially wearing the costumes! We had wildlife week in the first week of December and had a really interesting talk about owls. A special visitor came to our class too...a lovely end to a great first term!
